Unfortunately, many older Americans die as a result of nursing home negligence and abuse. Startling examples of nursing home resident deaths that may be caused by the negligence of the nursing homes include deaths associated with bedsores, elopement and wandering, falls, malnutrition and dehydration, and the use of unnecessary chemical and physical restraints. To protect certain family members in these terribly unfortunate situations, the law provides for wrongful death and survival actions.
